Description
Bluebell Field is a Sussex springtime landscape painting of a bluebell wood next to a yellow rapeseed field. It was painted in May just after I had been on a walk in the Newick area of Sussex. I walked across a field just beginning to sprout yellow rapeseed and came to a small pocket of woodland on the edge of the field. The experience of going from the yellow flowers and into a field of blue ones made me very happy and I have tried to capture some of the that exuberance in this painting which I started on the next day. The scent of these flower was pretty special as was the sound of the woodland birds. I tried to show that there was magic here by little tweaks and distortions to the painting but also keeping it fairly traditional. The point where the two fields meet is a red farmhouse that I deliberately blurred as I did not want it to be the focus of the painting. If you want to find this place, park at Newick church (BN84JZ) and head towards Spithurst and you may just spot it… The painting is 30x30x1.5 inches, painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, no frame needed.
