40 x 40 x 1.5 inches original oil painting of a 4 crows in an abstract winter forest. The crows fly in elegant formation against an abstract, art nouveau type background that looks like a winter forest at sunset or dusk. However, it has been deliberately blurred to make it look distant. The crows by comparison have been painted very sharply so that they are obviously near to the foreground. Strange patterns that are reminiscent of pagan runes surround the crows which make the scene slightly mysterious. It was inspired by the fact that crows are often thought of as spiritual messengers and by the fact that I often feel they are monitoring me when I walk in their territory and reporting my progress to someone! I like a mystery and I love crows. Painted on deep edge canvas - edges white, no frame needed.
I am a professional artist based in Sussex and I paint large original landscape and seascape paintings in oil on canvas. I have a Fine Art degree in sculpture (Brighton, 1983) but am mostly self taught as a painter. My painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Deco, a little Art Nouveau and whatever mood I am in that day. I often practice a kind of Impressionism in that I walk, look at things and then paint from memory. The result is that I paint what was impressed upon me when I looked at a landscape - thus a kind of Impressionism! (I hope that makes sense).
