Night Magicians is a large oil painting on canvas of three white barn owls flying across a lilac and orange twilight sky. It is contemporary art nouveau in style which you can see from the stylised shapes of the twigs and branches of the delicate white tree tops. Each of the owls (associated with the Goddess Athena by the way) is looking a different direction as if they are about to go their separate ways. Owls donβt really flock together so maybe they are. Owls are elegant beautiful birds and are all the more mysterious from being so quiet and hard to spot during the day time. This idea alone was enough for me to want to paint this. I am a professional artist based in Sussex and I paint large original landscape and seascape paintings in oil on canvas. I have a Fine Art degree in sculpture (Brighton, 1983) but am mostly self taught as a painter. My painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Deco, a little Art Nouveau and whatever mood I am in that day. I often practice a kind of Impressionism in that I walk, look at things and then paint from memory. The result is that I paint what was impressed upon me when I looked at a landscape - thus a kind of Impressionism! (I hope that makes sense).
