November Moment is a semi abstract autumn landscape of fields and woodlands with deer. It was inspired by the landscapes around Hever Castle in Kent and is 30x30x1.5 inches. The painting shows dripping trees and leaves in vibrant autumnal yellows and reds next to a stream. On the other side of the stream, at the edges of woodland, you can see a few deer watching. I took a walk here after several days of heavy rainfall and the fields and trees were waterlogged and muddy with lots of streams threading through them. I did see these deer and I am sure they were laughing as they watched me sloshing about in the undergrowth. I called it November Moment as it does represent a memory for me a wet English walk which I enjoyed very much. Painted on wide edged canvas, edges white, no frame needed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7aa0mJuyUA
I am a professional artist based in Sussex and I paint large original landscape and seascape paintings in oil on canvas. I have a Fine Art degree in sculpture (Brighton, 1983) but am mostly self taught as a painter. My painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Deco, a little Art Nouveau and whatever mood I am in that day. I often practice a kind of Impressionism in that I walk, look at things and then paint from memory. The result is that I paint what was impressed upon me when I looked at a landscape - thus a kind of Impressionism! (I hope that makes sense). I am inspired by the patterns of nature and the energy, colours and spaces of the landscapes and animals around me. I like to think that...
