Artist's Description
Winter Spell is a snowy landscape painting showing a white hart against a small group of trees. It is contemporary art nouveau in style. The paint is thick and textured and the colours range from white through to pinks, lilac greys and the fawn colours of winter in England. It was inspired after a walk I took along the South Downs near Amberley in January. I was in one of the valleys between the hills on my way down to the river Adur when a little group of deer standing by a clump of trees made an appearance. One was a white buck stag. The sun was low behind the trees and it was a perfect moment for me. Though not a traditional landscape, I hope it does give the flavour of this lovely part of Sussex. The painting has deep white edges, is ready to hang and does not need a frame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HT3VvOafYew
About Gill Bustamante
I am a professional artist based in Sussex and I paint large original landscape and seascape paintings in oil on canvas. I have a Fine Art degree in sculpture (Brighton, 1983) but am mostly self taught as a painter. My painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Deco, a little Art Nouveau and whatever mood I am in that day. I often practice a kind of Impressionism in that I walk, look at things and then paint from memory. The result is that I paint what was impressed upon me when I looked at a landscape - thus a kind of Impressionism! (I hope that makes sense). I am inspired by the patterns of nature and the energy, colours and spaces of the landscapes and animals around me. I like to think that...
